UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin natural gas main replacement projects in three separate areas of Luzerne County starting the week of October 2.
In the City of Wilkes Barre, approximately 2,500 feet of non-contemporary natural gas main will be replaced on South Meade Street and North Meade Street from East Northampton Street to Coal Street. UGI will renew service lines to about 98 customers. The project is expected to be completed by mid-December.
Natural gas main will also be replaced on Spring Street from Mundy Street to Chapel Street and Pine Street from Spring Street to Scott Street in Wilkes Barre. The replacement of approximately 2,500 feet of main will lead to upgraded gas services for about 52 customers. The project is expected to be completed by early December.
In the Boroughs of Pringle and Luzerne, approximately 3,100 feet of non-contemporary main will be replaced on Union Street from Fulton Street to Marion Street, and on McAndrew Street to the dead end of Webster Street. This project will also renew gas service lines to about 50 customers and is expected to be completed by mid-December.
Service line replacements require UGI to have access to customer homes to complete upgrades.
Construction is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. During construction hours, residents will experience lane closures, road closures, and traffic delays. Parking also will be restricted in the area during construction hours. Accommodations will be made for school buses and emergency vehicles.
