UGI Electric Division Files Base Rate Increase Request

UGI Electric Division (UGI Electric) today filed a request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to increase its base rates for electric distribution service to customers by $17.3 million annually. The base rate increase would recover costs for completed system and information technology improvements, while funding additional upgrades necessary for customer service and reliable electric service.

UGI Electric’s base rate increase request will impact the distribution component of customers’ electric bills. The distribution charge provides a utility company with the funds needed to own, operate and maintain the electric distribution system and provide customer service and emergency response services. The generation supply rate - the other major bill component - will not be affected by this rate filing. The generation supply rate recovers the Company’s cost to purchase electricity on the wholesale market and transmit it to UGI Electric’s distribution system.

If the company’s entire request is approved, the total bill for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month and receiving generation supply service from UGI Electric would increase from $200.50 to $226.23 per month or by 12.8 percent.

The total bill for a commercial customer using 1,000 kWh per month and receiving generation supply service from UGI Electric would increase from $190.78 to $217.65 per month or by 14.1 percent.

The total bill for an industrial customer using 50,000 kWh per month and receiving generation supply service from UGI Electric would increase from $5,813.37 to $6,132.27 per month or by 5.5 percent.

UGI Electric is requesting that the new electric rates take effect June 1, 2026. However, the PUC typically suspends the effective date for general base rate proceedings to allow for investigation and public hearings. Customers can challenge the rate change request by filing a formal complaint or by participating as a witness at a public hearing.

Customers and interested parties may view UGI Electric’s base rate filing materials on the Company’s website at www.ugi.com and clicking on the “rate filing” link on the home page. Customers with questions may also call UGI Electric toll-free at 1-800-276-2722 to receive further information on the proposed rate increase or to find out what actions they may take.
