UGI Utilities is scheduled to begin a system upgrade project on Monday, August 31, 2026, that will impact sections of both Lancaster City and Lancaster Township. The natural gas main replacement is part of UGI’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service and is an opportunity for residents and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of September and impact the following streets:
Hershey Avenue from Manor Street to Union Street
Intersection of Fremont Street and Hershey Avenue
Intersection of Manor Street and Hershey Avenue
Saint Joseph Street between Hershey Avenue and Prospect Street
Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday. Hours for most of the work is 7am to 5pm. Overnight work from 8pm to 6am is expected at the intersection of Manor Street and Hershey Avenue. Work at Fremont Street and Hershey Avenue intersection will not begin until approximately 8:30am to allow access to Lafayette Elementary School. Work will also pause for afternoon dismissal.
There will be some interruptions to natural gas service that will require UGI to have access to properties to inspect and relight equipment.
Weather and working conditions may have an impact on the completion date. After underground work is complete, final paving and restoration will occur later.
UGI encourages anyone interested in converting to natural gas to contact the company at 800-276-2722 or gasconversion@ugi.com.
