UGI Utilities is scheduled to begin a system upgrades project in Hazleton on Friday, April 17. The work is part of UGI’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service and is an opportunity for some homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.
The installation of the new natural gas main is expected to be completed by the end of July and impact the following streets:
- South Laurel Street between West Chapel Street and West Noble Street
- West Chapel Street between South Lee Court and South Laurel Street
- West Elm Street between South Church Street and South Manhattan Court
- West Birch Street between South Church Street and South Laurel Street
- South Lee Court between West Noble Street and West Birch Street
- South Lee Court between West Elm Street and West Chapel Street
- South Filmore Court between West Elm Street and West Chapel Street
Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm. Drivers may experience traffic and parking restrictions during construction hours. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service that will require UGI to have access to properties to inspect and relight equipment. Also, customers with inside natural gas meters will likely have those meters moved to an outside location.
Weather and working conditions may have an impact on the completion date. After underground work is complete, final paving and restoration will occur later.
UGI encourages anyone interested in converting to natural gas to contact the company at 800-276-2722 or gasconversion@ugi.com.
