UGI System Upgrades Set to Begin Next Week in Salem Township

Work Provides Opportunities to Convert to Natural Gas

UGI Utilities is scheduled to begin a system upgrades project in Salem Township, Luzerne County on Monday, May 11, 2026. The work is part of UGI’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service and is an opportunity for some homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.

The installation of the new natural gas main is expected to be completed by the mid-July and impact the following streets:

  •  Fowler Avenue between East 5th ½ Street and East Front Street

  • East 4th Street between Fowler Avenue and Johnson Avenue

  • East 3rd Street between Fowler Avenue and 900 Block of East 3rd Street

  • East 2nd Street between Fowler Avenue and Johnson Avenue

  • Central Avenue between East 4th Street and East Front Street

  • Line Street between East 4th ½ Street and East Front Street

  • Johnson Avenue between East 5th Street and East Front Street

  • East 4th ½ Street to Johnson Avenue

Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm. Drivers will experience traffic and parking restrictions during construction hours. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service that will require UGI to have access to properties to inspect and relight equipment. Also, customers with natural gas meters that are inside, will likely have those meters moved to an outside location.

Weather and working conditions may have an impact on the completion date. After underground work is complete, final paving and restoration will occur later.

UGI encourages anyone interested in converting to natural gas to contact the company at 800-276-2722 or gasconversion@ugi.com.
