UGI Utilities, Inc. is set to begin two gas main replacement projects in Bethlehem on May 13. The work is part of UGI’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service.
One project is near Lehigh University and Broughal Middle School. The work will impact the following streets:
- East Morton Street between Vine Street and Pierce Street
- Webster Street between Fourth Street and East Morton Street
This project, which could also impact bus and walking routes for students, is scheduled to be completed by mid-July.
Also on May 13, UGI will begin a second gas main replacement project that will impact the following streets:
- Franklin Street between Spring Street and Leibert Street
- Leibert Street between Franklin Street and 6th Avenue
- The intersection of Liberty Street and Martins Lane
- 6th Avenue between Spring Street and Leibert Street
- Martins Lane between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue
- 7th Avenue between Martins Lane and West Lehigh Street
- Walton Street from 7th Avenue
This project is scheduled to be completed in mid-August. Weather and working conditions may impact completion dates.
Construction is scheduled for Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7am and 5pm. Drivers, residents, and business owners may experience road closures, detours, and traffic delays during construction hours. Parking will be restricted on the impacted streets during these hours. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service. This will require UGI to have access to properties to inspect and relight equipment.
UGI’s gas main replacement projects also provide an opportunity for some homes and businesses within the project areas to convert to natural gas. UGI encourages anyone along project routes to contact the company at 800-276-2722 or gasconversion@ugi.com if they are interested in converting.
